Smart thermostats provide simple solutions to issues surrounding temperature control. High-tech temperature regulation uses automation to learn the temperature habits of home dwellers. These thermostats are also able to tell when no one’s home and adjust accordingly. This feature has a huge impact on the environment and also energy costs. Even though the basic functions of these devices are similar, they all offer different designs and user experiences.
Nest Thermostat (3rd Generation)
Now under Google, this 3rd generation in the Nest series features a round design with a ringed screen. It can be easily installed over your older temperature controlling device. After installation, you have to manually adjust the temperature for a few days until it learns your habits. Wifi connectivity does allow you to override the system and adjust the temperature via the app. When you’re not home Nest will set itself to away mode; this is environmentally and wallet-friendly. Nest also sells temperature sensors separately that you can place in rooms all over your home. This helps Nest to control temps in specific areas of the house.
This device was designed specifically to compete with Nest but, it controls temperature differently. Lyric uses geofencing to set a range; when you’re out of that range, the system will automatically go into away mode. Once you’re back in range, the thermostat will change back to “home” mode, and your home will be at the preferred temperature. This device is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Samsung SmartThings.
Honeywell Round Smart Thermostat
This minimalistic designed thermostat is similar to the other smart thermostats because of its wifi connectivity and app controls. However, it uses geofencing like the Lyric to kick on the heat or air conditioning when you breach the fence. It’s also compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Samsung SmartThings.
This device is unique because it comes with a smart sensor that allows you to have more control over temperature settings (helping it learn preferred settings quicker). Ecobee 4 has a stylish square screen, helps you track local weather, and develop a plan to keep your home comfortable. Through the device, users can also ask it to dim lights, play music, and add items to a grocery list. Ecobee 4 is compatible with Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana, Apple Homekit, and Amazon Alexa.
